Rome - Food Tour & Vatican City

After our continental breakfast at the hotel (salami, mortadella, cheese, a variety of breads, eggs, yogurt, granola, juice, coffee, lattes, and the servers made cappuccinos made to order :)  We boarded the bus to our Food Tour of Rome.  The food tour started at the local market, where we tried pesto, olive tapenade, and sun dried tomato spread.  We also watched a man create magical vegetables with simple tools!  We sampled a variety of local pizzas - zucchini, potato, Margherita, and some were brave enough to try the anchovies!  We followed our guide to a cheese and sausage sampling where we were led to a basement that had a HUGE wheel of Parmigano Reggianno cheese that we dug into and broke off pieces to sample with our fingers - Delicioso!!  Our last stop was to a gelateria where we were offered samples of three types of gelato.  Then we were told we had an hour to wander and eat lunch ... most of us were too full to eat and we shopped for our free time.
We went to the Vatican in the afternoon and visited miles of incredible paintings, tapestries, and sculptures.  Our highlights were the Sistine Chapel painted by Michelangelo and climbing to the very top of the dome of St. Peter's Basilica.  We were exhausted after the excitement and physically climbing over 300 steps in confined spaces.  We went out for dinner to consume even more food to round the day off ... when in Rome ....

We have beautiful images which we would love to share.  However wifi in Italy is stubborn!

We are off to visit the Cinque Terra tomorrow, we hope to find wifi that will accomodate our imagery.
